Sustainability at FV SeleQt

At FV SeleQt we believe that our fine vegetables should be good for everyone: good for us, good for the planet.

Because of the health benefits of our vegetables, we believe that our products will be a crucial part of our diet in the future. And it is not just the consumer who benefits from a varied, healthy and mainly plant-based diet, there are great benefits for the planet.

However, we believe that sustainability does not stop at providing healthy products. Every day we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint by improving operational excellence in our supply chain. That means we look at efficient transport methods, reduction of food waste, use of energy from renewable sources and use of light and recyclable packaging materials.

People

Our farmers are committed to growing our products with passion every day. And you can taste it. And because we couldn’t do it without them, we like to give something back to our farmers and their community.

For example, our farms regularly provide food boxes to all employees, so that the families always have enough to eat. And the farm organises free transport for the employees to our fields. To give employees with children equal job opportunities and to offer children opportunities for the future, our farms offer free day care and an educational facility, where young children can go during the day.

Children of employees who are of school age, have the opportunity to go to school. The school is often located at our locations. In some cases, the tuition fees of the children in secondary school are also paid for.

In addition, our farms all have their own football teams and we have set up community centres where people can come together.

It is important to us that our social sustainability efforts are in line with international standards. That is why we are assessed by external controlling parties. A few years ago, our farm was the first company in Zimbabwe to undergo a SMETA audit, and partly because of this we have made many steps in recent years. By achieving SMETA, we make our sustainability efforts tangible for our stakeholders and put our words into action.

Planet

Healthy soil, water management and biodiversity form the basis for a future-proof production of healthy products. That is why we are continuously looking for solutions to reduce our impact. We have a fertiliser project in which we determine the required fertiliser based on water and soil measurements. In addition, we work as much as possible with biological control and we do many tests to increase this even further.

We also continue to innovate in the field of water management. We regularly measure water use to gain insight into our current impact. Based on the insights we gain from this data, we have invested in a drip irrigation system, as this method is much more efficient than traditional forms of irrigation.
